I'm not sure why, but when I started reading your post, I immediately thought of We Are Stardust...And the Vietnam War... which was a 'policing action' because war had never been declared. And the Korean War.Neither of which is the point of the passage you quote, but just as terrible. History IS doomed to repeat itself, isn't it?And now that I've gone and made myself cry, I'll close this.

I'm not sure why, but when I started reading your post, I immediately thought of We Are Stardust...Yeah, that's been uppermost in my mind over the past few days as well.Seeing the pictures of all the protests that are continuing in the U.S.And you are quite right of course, Vietnam was never a 'war' in the same way that The Falklands Conflict was only ever a 'conflict' and not a war...What's in a name eh?I wonder if the U.S and U.K. TV stations might consider re-airing the movie version of 'M.A.S.H' right about now as that has got to be one of the best anti-war films ever made and even thoguh it was set in 'Korea' everyone knew that Altman was really depicting Vietnam...I'm sorry that you are now crying :(not my intention...

Ah.. that's okay. It's not your fault I'm a sappy, oversensitive person who can cry at the drop of a hat. It's just, first, your story, then the ending with the wall. Then thinking how it's all merging into the coming conflict. It would be nice if they played MASH again. Maybe someone would listen.
